italian designer ettore sottsass often used geometric marble blocks in his creations. beyond being a clear tribute, the name ettore comes from the greek hector, meaning “the one who holds or sustains.” the floating monolith form of this side table is only made possible by a robust internal metal structure that supports its 70kg of marble. designed by arthur casas for his own beach house, the piece reflects his fascination with the quality and beauty of stones sourced from brazil.
via appia: a sedimentary quartzite conglomerate from goiás, featuring predominantly amber tones. the rounded shape of its pebbles is the result of millions of years of water erosion. this stone is exclusive to arthur casas’ furniture.
raphaello: a dolomitic marble with strong resistance, formed through the recrystallization of large pebbles from the same rock, in predominantly white and gray tones. it is also quarried in northern goiás, near chapada dos guimarães.
emerald green: a quartzite conglomerate with quartz interstices, notable for its intense green color due to the presence of the mineral fuchsite schist. quarried in bahia, it is also found in south africa.
